If I Ever Feel Better by Phoenix is the defining song of February. Thinking back to last February, I felt the same self-destructiveness and sadness. I really don’t understand why it’s so hard to get through this month.

Every month I have a service scholar dinner with a different theme based on the idea of taking a stand. This month’s dinner theme was based on music creating social change. After a really engaging presentation, they played the music video for Same Love by Macklemore, and what followed was probably the icing to a beautiful weekend. There was silence except for a few people sobbing and wiping tears away. My grand big turned around and just mouthed “I love you”, and it was just one of the most touching moments. All of my struggles and insecurities, feeling that I didn’t feel comfortable voicing, was finally said through Macklemore and I have never felt so accepted and understood within one single moment. 

Something is very unsettling about the Pope’s resignation.
